Grant Gary
FOUNDER/CHIEF SURF OFFICER- Grant is a former Silicon Valley founder turned school teacher who taught middle and high school for 11 years before founding Boston Surf Adventures. He is incredibly passionate about bringing surfing and surf culture to the greater Boston area. He has seen the transformative healing power that surfing can bring to people’s lives. He believes its one of the only extreme sports you can participate in regularly while still living in a major metropolitan area. When Grant isn’t in the ocean you can find him scaling mountains around the world or traveling to far flung destinations in search of empty waves and a full soul.

Christine Jozitis
HEAD COACH - Christine is a Boston Public Schools visual art teacher with an incredible capacity for empathy and a deep passion for surfing. Her coaching philosophy is driven by the belief that everyone belongs in the ocean and every-body can learn to ride waves. She is a founding member of the Lavender Lineup, a community-based surf club dedicated to BIPOC and queer folx in New England, and a professional artist. When she’s not teaching art or surfing, you can find her creating, hanging out with plants, petting cats and traveling the world with her partner. You’ll find her anywhere that a steep rock face meets a big blue ocean.
-
Varun Rajesh
HEAD COACH - Varun is a project manager at a tech startup in Boston, an enthusiastic surfer and surf coach, and holds a Brazilian jiu-jitsu Blue Belt. His passion lies in spreading the joy of surfing and ensuring its inclusivity. Varun is an ISA-certified adaptive surf instructor and is on the advisory board at AmpSurf, a national nonprofit dedicated to adaptive surf and surf therapy. When he's not catching waves, you'll likely find Varun soaking up the energy of a rock concert or engaging in a spirited board game night with friends.

Sarah Wade (Swade)
COACH - Swade is a Data Analyst specializing in healthcare data and advocacy. She went to Boston University and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health while competing on the BU women’s rowing team and later received her Masters of Science in Population Health Epidemiology. Swade grew up by the beach in New England and splits their free time surfing skiing, or hiking depending on the wave forecast.
-
Kate Burgess
COACH - Kate’s love of the ocean spans generations, having grown up close to two grandparents from the UK who cut their teeth in coastal towns. This passion turned full time, as Kate currently works in environmental justice and Tribal policy in an effort to keep beaches and other natural spaces accessible and healthy for future generations of surfers. Out of the water, Kate enjoys teaching Wilderness First Aid courses, volunteering with New England’s AmpSurf chapter, and dreaming up inventions to make wetsuit removal less of a struggle. Lastly, Kate holds several core beliefs about surfing: 1) catching a wave yourself is rivaled only by watching the joy of someone else’s, 2) the thicker the wetsuit, the longer the apres surf nap, and 3) the best surfers are the ones having the most fun.

Miguel Toral
COACH - Miguel hails from the warm Pacific waters of Ecuador. He has been living in the US for 9 years and has learned to embrace the cold water of New England. He believes surfing is one the most relaxing and fun sports that human beings can practice. He loves nature and especially the Ocean, teaching and interacting with all different types of people. He can’t wait to see you at the ocean 😄
-
Erin Smith
COACH - Erin has been surfing for over 10 years, with all things water-related as her main passion in life. Out of the water, she is a freelance journalist working on all sorts of stories including quite a few surf-related ones – most recently, a short piece for Surfline. She completed her master’s degree in Journalism and International Affairs in Dublin, Ireland last year after completing her undergrad at Boston University in International Relations. She has competed not only as a surfer, winning the women’s longboard category at the 2023 Irish Intervarsities Competition, but also as a rower on the BU women’s lightweight rowing team for all four years. Erin believes that everyone deserves a place in the ocean and truly, at the end of the day the best surfer is always the one having the most fun.
-
Emma Rylander
COACH -Howdy! I'm Emma (she/her); I'm originally from the East Coast of Florida and now live and work in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Whether I'm surfing my warm weather home break or the winters waters of New England, being in the water always reminds me of the importance of embracing fluidity, being in your body, and just good ole childlike play. I'm so excited to get to share some time in the ocean with you, and hopefully it soon becomes your new "happy place" too.

Andrew Postal
COACH - Andrew is a college student at Colby College in Maine. He’s incredibly passionate about surfing, skiing, his siblings, and his tennis ball fetching dog Jaxamo. When he’s not out in the ocean expertly weaving his way through new England barrels, you can find him shredding powder at a nearby mountain, driving a golf ball over 300 yards, or pile driving his opponents into the rugby pitch.
